The idea of creating an open-source alternative to Ultima Online is already ambitious, but tying it to the broader Fediverse ecosystem and adding cryptocurrency features introduces a unique and potentially groundbreaking dimension. This concept would not just be about building another massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). Instead, it would aim to create a truly decentralized digital society where gameplay, economy, governance, and history are all interconnected across multiple open platforms.

In this article, I will outline how such a system might work. The pieces include Fediverse integration for identity and social networking, Monero and Bitcoin Cash wallets for transactions, mining tied to gameplay, and world-state persistence using Arweave. By combining these elements into a single vision, the game could function not only as entertainment but also as a durable, player-owned digital civilization.

Fediverse as the foundation of identity

The Fediverse is a decentralized collection of social platforms like Mastodon, Pleroma, and PeerTube, all of which use the ActivityPub protocol for federation. If this game were built around the Fediverse, every player would log in with their existing account. Their profile in Mastodon, for example, would double as their in-game identity. This means that a guild’s social feed could live both inside the game and out on the Fediverse, visible to anyone who follows them.

This approach solves one of the biggest problems of modern online games: centralized control over accounts. If accounts live on the Fediverse, no single company has the power to banish a player entirely. Servers could still choose who to allow, but identity would remain portable. This portability would naturally align with the open-source ethos of the project and encourage vibrant cross-community interaction.

Built-in wallets and peer-to-peer economy

Every account would come with lightweight cryptocurrency wallets attached, supporting Monero and Bitcoin Cash. These currencies were chosen because they offer low fees and fast settlement while maintaining different strengths: Bitcoin Cash for broad usability and Monero for strong privacy. Keys would remain user-side, and the game would never hold custody of funds.

The in-game marketplace could accept both currencies for player-to-player trades. Items, land deeds, or crafting services could be priced in-game, but settlement would occur on-chain. This would allow players to retain ownership of their wealth independently of the server’s fate. For example, a player could sell a rare crafted sword to another player, receive Monero in return, and record the transaction ID alongside the game’s item registry.

Mining integrated with gameplay

One of the more experimental ideas is integrating Monero mining into the gameplay loop. Rather than running as hidden background mining, the system would trigger mining events tied to specific in-game actions. For example, opening a magical portal or powering a guild structure might require computational work. The client would then perform a short burst of RandomX hashing, submitting shares to P2Pool under the player’s Monero wallet.

This system would need careful balancing. Mining must always be opt-in and bounded so as not to overwhelm CPUs or laptops. However, when done responsibly, it could create a unique feedback loop: players contribute real computational resources to the broader Monero network while simultaneously generating in-game rewards for their efforts. Mining could become an optional but meaningful part of the economy, distinct from traditional grinding or farming.

Arweave for permanent world-state persistence

Arweave provides a “permaweb” where data, once uploaded, is guaranteed to be available indefinitely. By saving world-state snapshots to Arweave, the game could achieve a new level of permanence. Every few minutes or hours, the server would serialize a snapshot of the world—items, deeds, land ownership, guild charters—and upload it to Arweave.

This would serve several purposes. First, it creates an immutable history of the game world, allowing disputes to be resolved transparently. Second, it makes the game fork-friendly: anyone could spin up a new server by pulling the latest snapshot from Arweave and continuing the simulation. Finally, it preserves player creations for posterity. Guild halls, epic battles, or even entire towns would not simply vanish if a server shuts down—they would live permanently on the permaweb.

Data flow and integration

At a high level, the system could operate as follows:

Players log in with their Fediverse account, linking their identity across game and social networks.

Wallets are either generated or connected, with public keys tied to the account.

Gameplay occurs in real time, with servers managing hot state and saving cold state to local databases.

Snapshots of world diffs are periodically uploaded to Arweave, with manifests marking the canonical latest state.

Trades between players are recorded as signed orders, with on-chain settlement and receipts stored on Arweave for transparency.

Mining events occur in response to in-game actions, producing both real cryptocurrency rewards and in-game bonuses.

This pipeline would make the game not just another MMO but a hybrid of distributed computing, blockchain persistence, and federated social networking.

Governance and community control

One of the natural extensions of Fediverse integration is decentralized governance. Shards (individual servers) could run their own Fediverse accounts, posting patch notes, proposing changes, or holding votes. Players could sign ballots with their Fediverse accounts, and results could be anchored to Arweave for transparency.

This system would allow communities to fork or federate as they wish. If one shard became toxic or poorly managed, others could simply mute or defederate it, much like Fediverse platforms already do. Instead of relying on a central developer to make balance changes, players could shape the evolution of their shard democratically.

Security and fairness considerations

Such a system introduces challenges as well. Mining integration must be tightly controlled to avoid exploitation or harming players’ hardware. Anti-cheat systems would need to enforce server authority on movement and combat while verifying asset integrity. Wallets must remain strictly non-custodial to preserve privacy and security.

At the same time, transparency via Arweave creates opportunities to prevent cheating. Duplication exploits or fraudulent trades could be checked against immutable records. By anchoring important events to a public, verifiable ledger, the game would have a stronger defense against dishonest behavior than most traditional MMOs.

Modding and long-term creativity

Since the entire project would be open-source, modding would naturally play a central role. Developers could create new content, rulesets, or graphical overhauls, storing their work on Arweave for long-term preservation. Players could choose to join shards that run vanilla rules, heavily modded variants, or entirely experimental forks.

This openness is key to long-term success. The history of Ultima Online shows that much of its enduring appeal comes from player creativity, custom shards, and unique rule variations. By making forking and modding easy and verifiable, this project could tap into the same spirit while extending it with permanent records and portable identities.

Path to implementation

A possible rollout plan might follow these steps:

MVP: A single shard with Fediverse login, Bitcoin Cash testnet payments, and simple Arweave snapshots.

Alpha: In-game marketplace, Monero wallet integration, and optional mining events tied to gameplay.

Beta: Multi-shard federation, governance features, and comprehensive modding tools.

Release: A stable ecosystem with strong Fediverse presence, permanent history on Arweave, and sustainable mining integration.

Each phase would build upon the last, ensuring that the core game remains fun and engaging even before the more experimental features reach maturity.

Why this matters

The idea of an Ultima Online alternative tied to the Fediverse, with built-in crypto wallets and Arweave persistence, represents more than just a new game. It is an experiment in digital society-building. By combining decentralized identity, peer-to-peer economies, player-driven governance, and permanent history, the project could create something that feels less like a product and more like a living civilization.

This approach would also align with the values of open-source software, digital sovereignty, and user ownership. In a time when most online games are locked down and monetized to the extreme, a project like this could show what is possible when players truly own their accounts, their creations, and even the history of their world.

In the end, this is still just an idea. But it is an idea that combines multiple technologies already proven in other domains—Fediverse federation, cryptocurrency, distributed mining, and permanent storage—and asks what would happen if they were woven together in one persistent, player-driven world. The result could be a game that is not only fun to play but also enduring, auditable, and genuinely free.

Building a multi-node Kubernetes cluster using Turing Pi is an exciting and educational project for anyone interested in distributed computing. By combining Kubernetes with the compact and powerful Turing Pi board, which uses Raspberry Pi compute modules, this project offers a hands-on opportunity to understand how containerized applications can be orchestrated across multiple nodes. For both beginners and seasoned tech enthusiasts, this project delivers insights into modern application management and system scalability.

What Is Kubernetes?

Kubernetes is an open-source platform designed to automate the deployment, scaling, and operation of containerized applications. It helps developers and system administrators efficiently manage workloads across clusters of computers by abstracting the underlying hardware and automating repetitive tasks. With Kubernetes, concepts like pods, services, and load balancing come to life, providing a framework for building resilient, scalable applications.

Working with Kubernetes offers valuable skills for modern software development and DevOps. From managing application lifecycles to monitoring system health, the platform enables users to understand the core principles of distributed systems. For this project, using Kubernetes on Turing Pi makes these concepts more approachable by creating a small-scale cluster environment.

Why Use Turing Pi for a Kubernetes Cluster?

The Turing Pi board is a compact computing platform designed to work with Raspberry Pi compute modules. It simplifies the process of building multi-node systems by offering a single board that can house multiple modules. This makes it ideal for experimenting with Kubernetes, as the board provides an affordable and portable way to simulate larger-scale systems.

With Turing Pi, users can learn how Kubernetes operates in a multi-node environment without the need for expensive hardware. By connecting multiple compute modules, you can explore how workloads are distributed, how networking is handled between nodes, and how resources are managed. This provides a tangible, hands-on way to understand the inner workings of Kubernetes in a controlled environment.

What Can You Learn from This Project?

This project offers a chance to dive into several key areas of distributed computing and DevOps. Setting up the cluster introduces you to Kubernetes essentials, such as deploying containers, creating services, and scaling applications. By working through these tasks, you can see how Kubernetes automates complex processes like balancing workloads across nodes and restarting failed containers.

Additionally, configuring a Kubernetes cluster on Turing Pi provides insights into networking, storage management, and cluster maintenance. You’ll also gain practical experience with tools like
kubectl
for managing Kubernetes clusters and YAML files for defining application configurations. These skills are directly transferable to real-world scenarios, making this project both educational and practical.

Challenges and Benefits

Building a Kubernetes cluster comes with its share of challenges. Configuring the nodes, setting up networking, and troubleshooting errors can be time-consuming, especially for those new to the platform. However, these obstacles are part of the learning process and offer valuable experience in diagnosing and resolving system issues.

The benefits of this project go beyond technical knowledge. It fosters an understanding of the principles behind modern cloud infrastructure and application scaling. For developers, this knowledge is invaluable when designing applications that need to run efficiently in production environments. For hobbyists, it’s an opportunity to explore cutting-edge technology in a cost-effective and manageable way.

Getting Started

To begin, you’ll need a Turing Pi board, Raspberry Pi compute modules, and basic networking components like an Ethernet switch. You’ll also need to install Kubernetes and related tools like Docker for container management. Once the hardware and software are ready, you can follow tutorials or documentation to set up your cluster and deploy your first containerized application.

Starting small is recommended—deploying a simple application like a web server can help you grasp the basics. As you gain confidence, you can experiment with more complex scenarios, such as deploying multiple applications or implementing monitoring solutions like Prometheus.

Conclusion

Building a multi-node Kubernetes cluster with Turing Pi is an engaging way to learn about distributed computing and container orchestration. By working through the challenges of setting up and managing a cluster, you’ll gain valuable insights into how Kubernetes simplifies the complexities of modern application management. Whether you’re a developer, system administrator, or hobbyist, this project offers a practical and rewarding introduction to one of today’s most important technologies.

The Arian controversy was a significant theological debates in early Christianity. The following is notes and may not be completely correct. The following ideas the general understanding of this writer which might be partially or fully wrong. If any part of this author’s understanding is inaccurate or incorrect, please let the note writer know. Originating in North Africa during the late third and early fourth centuries, the Arian controversy centered on the nature of Christ and his relationship to God the Father, challenging the developing doctrine of the Trinity. Although Isaac Newton lived over a millennium after Arius, his theological views resonate with themes from this controversy, revealing his unorthodox approach to Christianity.

The Arian Controversy: A Challenge to Orthodoxy

The debate began with Arius, a Christian presbyter in Alexandria, who argued that Christ was a created being, distinct and subordinate to God the Father. According to Arius, Jesus was not co-eternal or consubstantial with the Father, meaning he did not share the same divine essence. These views were controversial, as they undermined the Trinitarian belief that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit were three persons of one substance.

In 325 AD, the First Council of Nicaea convened to address this theological divide, resulting in the Nicene Creed, which affirmed Christ’s full divinity and co-eternity with the Father. Arius and his supporters were declared heretical, yet the debate persisted for decades, influencing later theological developments and sparking renewed interest in Christ’s nature in subsequent centuries.

Isaac Newton’s Unorthodox Theology

Isaac Newton is best known as a groundbreaking scientist, but he was also a devout and deeply theological thinker. His religious beliefs were far from mainstream, placing him in the company of historical dissenters like Arius. Newton rejected the doctrine of the Trinity, finding it unsupported by Scripture and irrational. He believed the Trinitarian view was a corruption of early Christianity, introduced to accommodate political and ecclesiastical agendas.

Newton’s private theological writings, kept secret during his lifetime, reveal his meticulous study of the Bible and early Church history. He concluded that Christ was subordinate to God the Father, echoing a central theme of Arianism. However, Newton did not fully align with Arius, as he viewed Jesus as divine in a unique sense but still distinct from and lesser than the Father. For Newton, God was one, indivisible, and supreme, while Christ was God’s agent in creation and salvation.

The Influence of Early Christian Thought

Newton’s engagement with early Christian debates highlights his intellectual independence and refusal to accept orthodoxy uncritically. He was drawn to Arianism and other non-Trinitarian traditions because they seemed to align better with his interpretation of Scripture. Newton also critiqued the Council of Nicaea, which he viewed as a political event rather than a purely theological one.

His theological dissent paralleled his scientific revolution, where he challenged established ideas and sought to uncover universal truths. Just as Newton’s Principia redefined physics, his religious studies reflect a desire to purify Christian theology from what he saw as unwarranted complexities and distortions.

Newton’s Legacy in Theology

Newton’s theological writings, though overshadowed by his scientific achievements, offer a fascinating glimpse into the mind of a man who sought harmony between reason, scripture, and faith. His unorthodox views align him with historical dissenters like Arius, demonstrating how the debates of early Christianity continued to influence thought centuries later. Newton’s legacy is not only that of a scientific genius but also a seeker of truth in all its forms, both natural and divine.

This might sound like a silly question or it might be a realistic one. Is A Course In Miracles a cult? Is ACIM a brainwashing device? One might ask alternatively, is the Bible the basis of cults? Perhaps some cults are based around the Bible, or perhaps some cults have been based around A Course In Miracles. The only time this answer might be yes is if there are individuals using A Course In Miracles in a coercive or unethical way. Probably most things can be used in a coercive or unethical way if one wants to use them in such a way. It might sometimes be legal to be unethical, but it does not make it right. There can be legal ways of acting unethically and there can be illegal ways of acting unethically. If ACIM is used unethically in a legal way, then perhaps that individual should simply be exposed or abandoned. However, if someone is using A Course In Miracles or any other spiritual or non-spiritual book to coerces and control others in a way that is illegal, then perhaps that is where the government should become involved, and those individuals should be held legally accountable for their actions.

In one sense, a cult is simply a pejorative term for “a new religious movement”. A Course In Miracles could perhaps be considered a form of new religious movement potentially, since it was reportedly scribed in the 1970’s. However, it can be a positive influence for many! It does not condemn anyone to hell.

So to call A Course In Miracles a cult or the basis of a cult is just as silly as calling any other potentially neutral or non-neutral idea or book the basis of a cult. It is really the actions of individuals that would determine whether or not ACIM or anything else has become negatively, illegally, and/or unethically utilized.

Is Heaven on Earth? Is Earth in Heaven? One might say that Earth is not currently in Heaven and Heaven in not currently on Earth. A Course In Miracles implies that The Earth is in Heaven now, it seems. It seems to imply if that at all one sees something not of Heaven on Earth, then that something is an illusion, and it is false. However, what ACIM says about what one should do with that illusion is perhaps open to multiple interpretations.

In one sense, ACIM might say that one should simply deny the illusion, using the constructive use of denial. In another way, ACIM might imply that one should simply do nothing at all about the illusion, and just know that it is an illusion. Additionally, ACIM might imply that one should ask The Holy Spirit what should be done about the illusion. The Holy Spirit might tell one to attempt to remedy the illusion utilizing Earthly means.

So Heaven might be everywhere. Even where illusions are, Heaven might be the container which holds the illusion, which can only be used to obscure the view of Heaven, even though, that illusion, and all the apparently involved parties are both in Heaven and still in the illusion, which does not exist, because it is an illusion. Perhaps when humans die on Earth they simply go to another part of Heaven, like if one where to fly to another continent on a plane, or to the moon on a spaceship. They may be a distance away, but still in Heaven, and/or The Universe.

Therefore, death is an illusion. Death means nothing since those who have appeared to die, and those who have not yet appeared to die will eventually be back together. And time, which seems to create chronological gaps, really, should not and does not exist. For if one lives through five years, or 100 years, in the present, looking back, do not those gaps of time both not exist? Past time is only moments of the present strung together in memories.

So all humans should be joyous. And if the illusion of lack of joy and elation seems to linger, one should remember that one needs not worry about what to say or what to do, so perhaps The Holy Spirit would have one linger in that, as perhaps a sort of practical joke. So Heaven is now. The Earth is in Heaven. True Heaven shows itself truly on some parts of the Earth. Heaven is on parts of Earth, and the other parts simply have a fog which waits for bringers of light and heat to evaporate the foggy illusion into the real Heaven that is.

Here are some more ideas related to A Course In Miracles.

How to Find Joy

God wants all humans to experience eternal joy. This is a guide about how to experience joy. First, find things that bring you joy. Then, do things that bring you joy. Try something that might bring you joy, then see if it brings you joy. If it brings you joy, then do it again. Do things repeatedly that do or have the potential to bring you joy.

This is not necessarily hard. It is just a matter of being willing to try things that might bring you joy, and then going out and trying them. Everyone deserves joy. Everyone deserves perfect happiness. Don’t break the law in the quest to find joy. Perhaps attempt to change laws or circumvent laws in a legal way if necessary. Read ACIM to obtain joy perhaps. A Course In Miracles can perhaps help one find joy. It is perhaps a manual for how to find joy. Miracles can bring one joy it seems. Perhaps helping others can bring one joy.

Should You Believe in A Course In Miracles?

Some claim that A Course In Miracles was written for Jesus. That is, Jesus directed the author to scribe what she did. If this is true, it may have important implications. If this is true, then the 3 billion Christians on this Earth may have something new they should perhaps consider. Perhaps if A Course In Miracles shows you that it is true, then you should believe in what it says.

God Is All Powerful

God is all powerful! God could make himself powerless. God could clone himself a trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion times. God could allow one human to be in multiple places at once in different forms all in the same room.

There is nothing that God cannot do. God could tell the funniest joke ever to someone, and then tell an even funnier joke. God could place all deceased human on one planet in another universe as a joke, and then make it funny. God’s will is joy for all his creations, and God has the power to make that happen quite easily.

Alway Try to Listen to The Holy Spirit

If one is not sure of something, then The Holy Spirit should be consulted. If one has a question, The Holy Spirit should be consulted. If one has a choice to make, one should do what The Holy Spirit guides them to do. If one listens to The Holy Spirit, then one cannot go wrong. Hopefully, these ideas about A Course In Miracles will be useful to some of the humans on this wonderful Earth.

Here are some beautiful ideas from the wonderful book A Course In Miracles. No one has to do anything. There is nothing that anyone must do. A Course In Miracles indicates that everyone needs to do nothing. ACIM does not say that everyone should or must do nothing, but simply that everyone needs to do nothing. So, perhaps The Holy Spirit will call someone to do something, but it is still not a requirement it seems. A Course In Miracles is a beautiful book with a beautiful and miraculous message.

Heaven is grand. Heaven is great. Nature in Heaven is great. This Earth in Heaven is great! Many of the women in Heaven are wonderful. Laughter in Heaven is great. The joy that God wills for all humans is nice. God’s gifts are bountiful. ACIM gives beautiful descriptions of the Heaven that humans are in. God grants humans unlimited time in Heaven. There is no rush in Heaven. There is nothing that one must do in Heaven, but there are many things that humans can do in Heaven.

Always listen to The Holy Spirit. One should always listen to The Holy Spirit, and always let The Holy Spirit guide one’s thoughts and actions. If one listens to The Holy Spirit, then one can go wrong. A Course In Miracles seems to indicate that The Holy Spirit will guide all and take care of all things. The Holy Spirit is grand, caring, kind, generous, and smart. The Holy Spirit knows what is needed, and will provide for all needs.

Always live The Happy Dream. It is most sensible to always live The Happy Dream. The Happy Dream is the best dream. It makes no sense to live anything other than The Happy Dream. Dream big, dream happy thoughts, live a happy life that is full of joy and elation. Elation is key in The Happy Dream it seems.

A Course In Miracles seems to indicate that a happy dream is everyone’s right and everyone’s inheritance. God is all good, all powerful, all knowing, and present everywhere. There is nothing that God and The Holy Spirit cannot do. Hopefully these ideas from ACIM will be useful and enjoyable for humans to read.

Here are even more thoughts about A Course In Miracles (ACIM) and its implications. There is much to say about this miraculous book. A Course In Miracles would likely guide one to want to abolish psychiatric slavery. A Course In Miracles promotes freedom and personal responsibility. A Course In Miracles would not allow for involuntary psychiatric slavery. Laws should be obeyed, but also, unjust laws should be changed. Abolish involuntary psychiatric treatment and the insanity defense. What does ACIM say one should do in Heaven? ACIM says humans are in Heaven now.

ACIM says much about Heaven. So one should do what The Holy Spirit directs, it seems.

Is time infinite? A Course In Miracles might say that time is an illusion and does not exist. Time is likely infinite it seems. This does not mean that one should squander time, but simply feel joy in that one can experience joy and elation forever and eternally.

ACIM might have some to say about what humans should do for money. It might be rather general. One should probably listen to The Holy Spirit and do as The Holy Spirit directs them.

ACIM Is perhaps a doorway to Heaven. A Course In Miracles is a book which can be a metaphorical and literal doorway into Heaven this very instant! Humans are here to bring one another joy and bliss. ACIM would seem to imply this. Humans are here to co-create together in constructive, creative, kind, caring, and generous ways.

God is great. There is nothing that God cannot do. God could split himself into a trillion other entities. ACIM Can lead one to feel elation. Elation is good, and so is A Course In Miracles. A Course In Miracles can help one to experience elation more frequently.

What is the best miracle? Raising the dead is probably the best miracle. One human start raising the dead this will bring much joy and elation to this Earth which is in Heaven. ACIM is a beautiful book with many beautiful passages and implications. Hopefully, all who read this will find these thoughts and ideas useful and enjoyable to read.

Psychiatry is effectively a pseudo medical cult. It engages in forced conversion using civil commitment and psychiatric holds. It relies on implicit theological posits in order to help justify suicide prohibitions. Psychiatry is effectively the secular religion of most democratic secular nations. I support the separation of church and state. I also support the separation of psychiatry and state.

Once suicide is respected as a civil and human right for adults, then perhaps less people will use it as “a cry for help”; maybe people can then talk openly about suicide in private and fully be able to ask for help without being concerned about potentially being locked up in a psychiatric unit.

I don’t think that an actual significant reduction in suicides will take place until suicide is respected as a civil and human right for adults, when it’s done in private. Suicide prohibitions prevent adults from being able to have open and honest conversations about suicide in private without being concerned about potentially being locked up in a psychiatric unit. Read the book Suicide Prohibition by psychiatrist Thomas Szasz to learn more.

Read the book Psychiatric Slavery by psychiatrist Thomas Szasz. There is no objective ways to diagnose psychiatric disorders. Psychiatrists are for the most part the only type doctors who can treat patients involuntarily. The Psychiatric Survivor Movement exists for a reason. Psychiatric abuse should be outlawed. Suicide should be respected as a civil and human right for adults when it is done in private. Read the book Suicide Prohibition by Szasz. Only consensual psychiatry should remain legal.

Psychiatry inflicts harm in subtle and also not so subtle ways. Psychiatric abuse needs to be outlawed. Psychiatric slavery needs to be outlawed. Psychiatric coercion needs to be outlawed. The insanity defense needs to be banned and outlawed. Suicide needs to be respected as a civil and human right for all adults when it is done in private. Read the books Suicide Prohibition and Psychiatric Slavery by psychiatrist Thomas Szasz.

Read books that psychiatrist Thomas Szasz wrote like The Myth of Mental Illness. The mind is intangible and can only be metaphorically sick, just as a sick joke is not literally sick. Humans can be miserable though. Misery and tragedy can be real. Psychiatry profits from medicalizing misery and social problems. Only consensual psychiatry should be legal.
